Beta 2.0 Bug Report: There was an error starting Zotero

I recently installed Zotero Beta 2.0 on my computer. I'm running Firefox 3.0.11 on my Mac OSX version 10.5.6.

I was getting an error message before that said Zotero could not find my data directory. So I set my data directory to a network drive. When I try to open up Zotero now I get an error message that says "[Javasript Application] there was an error starting Zotero."

I went into the advance bug reporting section and followed the directions. Here's what I get in the error console screen:

Error: [Exception... "Component is not available" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: file:///Users/mwerner1/Desktop/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/components/nsSessionStore.js :: sss_saveState :: line 1909" data: no]
Source File: file:///Users/mwerner1/Desktop/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/components/nsSessionStore.js
Line: 1909

Can you help me?
  • You should probably try to get Zotero to work on a local drive. The error you pasted is not a zotero error.
  • Thanks. I'm not able to open Zotero at all. Can you tell me what I can do to reset the directory in this case?

Can you still get to the preferences of the extension in your Firefox addons menu?
  • If not, go to about:config in the Firefox address bar, search for dataDir, and reset extensions.zotero.dataDir and extensions.zotero.useDataDir.
  • There's a yellow triangle with an ! in the middle of it on top of the zotero symbol in the bottom corner of my firefox browser. When I click on it I've been getting various error messages. I tried changing the data directory from a network drive to my local hard drive and then it wouldn't open at all from the browser or the Tools add-ons menu. I can't get to the preferences anymore.

So I uninstalled the 2.0 and installed the 1.0. Then I was given the option to choose the Firefox directory, which I did. And now I get a different error msg:

Zotero user data DB version is newer than SQL file

Any thoughts? Thanks for your help.

  • Nevermind, guys. I uninstalled and reinstalled 2.0 and now it's working fine. I don't get it, but it's working. Thanks.
