zotero user data db version is newer than sql file

Hi

I know this has already been posted but we have done everything that the posts say and still can't get the Zotero add on to work. We went up the Beta version which got rid of this error but we still couldn't view any data. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Please explain in detail the steps you have taken and what you mean by the above statement.
  • We tried to upgrade to the beta version of 1.5, thinking that would allow us to upgrade to the newer sql file, but all that did was give us a blank screen. Went back to the older version and got the error again. Is there something I need to do with the database and upgrading it.

    Thanks for the quick help
  • What do you mean by blank screen?

If you're able to open Zotero in 1.5, a Report ID would be helpful.
  • Hi

Here is what I have done so far. The user had 1.09 installed. I uninstalled it, removed all of the storage data from the Firefox profile and all of the sql data from the other folder within the firefox profile. I copied those to a temp directory. I reinstalled 1.09 using the download from Zotero's website. The error went away until I tried copying the data back in to the directory, which left me back where I started with that error message user data is newer then sql database. Any suggestions.

    thanks for the help

  • Please answer Dan's questions. The database you presently have has been used with Zotero 1.5. It will never be usable in previous versions. If you'd prefer to use 1.0, you will need to restore a database that had been used in that version & not in 1.5 or will have to start from scratch. If you'd prefer to use 1.5, it should work with the upgraded database & we need additional information to help you with this.
  • I got it working thanks for the help

  • Dan,
I'm having a similar problem to everyone else's. I upgraded to Firefox 3.0 and have uninstalled my previous version of zotero and then tried reinstalling both 1.0.10 and 2.0. But I'm still getting the icon in the lower right hand corner with this yellow error message: "Zotero user data DB version is newer than SQL file." I see from some of these discussions that some people have successfully deleted their old data bases. I would try this since my most up-to-date library is a group library that, presumably, I could access or copy over once I get zotero up and running again. If that is the solution, would you please walk me through how to delete a data base and start anew? And, if I do this, should I first check that my group library is using the same zotero version? I'm working on a PC with microsoft office 2003. Could you lay out the steps I should try to fix this?

    Many thanks!

The zotero database is only forwards-compatible. If you try to use 1.0.10 with a data directory that has ever been used with 2.0, you will get this message. Please confirm that you really are using 2.0b5 (in most cases, it should not give you that message, as it is the most up-to-date release that you've uses).

Check the library in your browser and/or use another zotero data directory, sync, and see what is there.
