Manually adding metadata to pdfs
I'm sorry to be back so quickly with another question but I thought it'd be better to post it as a separate thread.
The metadata-retrival feature is a researcher's dream; my question is how to 'manually' add the metadata to the files for which it does not work - without creating a separate entry. In other words, if the pdf is in the database without the metadata - can it somehow be imposed over it?
Thanks again.

adamsmithNo - just create a new entry (green plus) and attach the PDF. (Zotero can't write metadata to pdfs - it also doesn't read metadata from the file itself - it looks it up on CrossRef or Google Scholar).

dstillmanOr, a bit quicker: right-click on the PDF -> Create Parent Item from Selected Item, and then edit the parent item.

absconditusThanks a lot.

manwithbatonwhich item is to be considered the parent item?
-
bwiernik“Parent” just means the item the PDF is attached to. The one that the PDF is shown nested under in the item list.
-
emilyplunHow can I edit the information of a parent item?
