Concerned about a feature of "Synching

I noticed when I Synched my pc based zotero files and then synched my thumbdrive on another pc the files it pulled down only contained web links but not the snapshot of the page I took originally.

My question is this: will synching replace my existing files (which have "snapshots") with simple web links?

I don't mind tranferring data (through Synch) and losing the Snapshot as long as it resides on its original source drive.

By Synching, do I lose my Snapshots?

    If you don't use file syncing, you'll get "File not found" errors on the other machine. If that's not what you mean, please explain exactly what steps you're taking and what's happening.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I did get "file not found errors". Here's what I did:

    I use Zotero on my desk top p.c. Then I installed portable Firefox and Zotero on a thumbdrive so that I could work on my laptop.

    I copied and pasted my desktop Zotero files on to my thumbdrive.

    I used my thumbdrive and my laptop for a week and added a set of new files to Zotero as I was working on the internet.

    Next I wanted to merge the two Zotero libraries (thumbdrive and desktop).

    First I tried copying and pasting the new files from the thumbdrive to my desktop Zotero which worked. But then I realized that Synch would be a better long term solution to merging my Zotero files.

    When I performed a Sync the files that were originally on my thumbdrive arrived in my desktop Zotero with only the weblinks to the files--but not with the snapshots (where I had added notes, etc.). Here is the message I received when I tried to view the Snapshot of these files:

    "The attached file could not be found. It may have been moved or deleted outside of Zotero."

    So, that is my problem I can't merge two Zotero files via Synch and preserve the Snapshots.

    As the link Dan provided indicates, you would need to setup WebDAV syncing if you wanted your file attachments to be in sync.
