Issue: decreasing storage

I have gone over my 300MB quota, so I am trying to decrease my storage. I have deleted ample files, including pdfs, however the storage usage number has not changed.

    1) Make sure you've emptied the trash in your Zotero library.

    2) If you were well over your quota locally, deleting lots of files wouldn't necessarily make a difference, because Zotero would just continue to upload remaining files.
  • My trash was emptied and I was over by 0.1MB.

Is there a way to delete pdfs all at once, without deleting the journal source information that it is attached to?

Also, do snapshots take up storage space, and if so, is there a way to mass delete those as well without losing the journal source info?

No, that's a misunderstanding (and a slight glitch in how usage close to the limit is reported). You can't upload more than your quota, so it'll never show more than that. That has no bearing on how much you have locally, which might be far more than 300 MB.

Yes, but why would you want to do that? The only reason to use file syncing at all is to sync files. If you don't care about that, you can just disable file syncing. It doesn't affect your local usage of Zotero.

The easiest way to delete things en masse is by searching in the search bar (e.g., for "snapshot"), clicking an item, pressing Ctrl-A/Cmd-A to select the matches, and then using Ctrl/Cmd-click to deselect anything that was included by mistake, and then to delete the selected items.
  • Ok, thanks!

Before I disable file syncing can you clarify one more thing for me? I use the Zotero plug-in for my Word program for intext citations and automatically updating my bibliography. Is syncing required for these purposes?

No. Zotero is a local program on your computer, and all data is saved locally by default, and you can use all of Zotero's functionality on your own computer without syncing.
