Zotero Mac did everything possible but profile still can't be loaded - EMERGENCY!

While trying to fix a Mendeley issue in Word for Mac, Zotero stopped loading my profile. I've been through this before, and fixed it using suggestions on this forum. I again went through every step suggested. I finally deleted the app and all files associated with Zotero, except for my library data, and reinstalled Zotero. I still get the message that my profile can't be loaded. The profile.ini file is missing, and the Cache folder is missing; I can't find out how to create these either, and the app isn't creating them. Can anyone help? I have to submit two papers for publication this week!!

    Oh sorry! Thought you were full-time with Zotero! Anyway, I'll be patient, and hope her Kakato-ate-waza are good! Is she Ikkyu, or already Sankyu?

    I think we use a different ranking system here -- I think it translates best to Nikyu, but our dojo doesn't have 3 ranks for brown. Brown-belt is attained in two exams in our dojo, generally a year apart, and she's training her katas for the 2nd part, probably doing the exam in about half a year, maybe a little longer.

    Her kakato-ate-waza still needs more practice, but we're not rushing her, she's still quite young; if she takes longer to be ready for the 2nd exam, that's fine. She's most comfortable with sutemi-waza, koshi-waza and ne-waza. Both my kids got a lot further than me, I got stuck at 4th kyu.

    With Zotero not running (cmd-Q if it was), if you start Zotero using

    /Applications/Zotero.app/Contents/MacOS/zotero -P,

    does a profile picker pop up? What does it say?

    OMG you're brilliant!!! And a great judo dad! What a lucky girl, your daughter, and what a lucky grandma, me!!! You saved my day! yes in Italy there's a different ranking system, and we didn't get past the first year, since my son decided football (soccer) was much more challenging. Great to hear that there's no rush, which wasn't the case in football - the parents and coaches can be nasty! THANKS THANKS THANKS!

    You mean the picker fixed the problem? Alright, happy that helped, didn't expect that to fix it already.

    The procedure you suggested worked flawlessly. I created the profile, Zotero started up immediately, and all of my libraries are connected and functioning. A new extension was offered for Safari, and the Word plug-in works precisely as expected. I don't know how I would have learned this if you hadn't responded.
