Zotero Searchbar+marker bug
Hi everyone,
I'm using Zotero 5.0.62
I use Zotero's notes and it helps me a lot to cross my multiple notes (a so the articles attached) with the use of the searchbar (wich also search into the notes).
It works perfectly when I deal with my entire library (searchbar > everywhere) but when I use a filter with a marker, then use the searchbar>everywhere : Zotero isn't searching everywhere (and especially not in the notes I've attached to the articles...)
Someone has already solved this problem?
Best,
E.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean ("marker" isn't a term that Zotero uses), but what I think is going on is that the searchbar only searches in the currently visible results, so that when you filter by a tag you wouldn't see all items that match a search -- is that what you're seeing?
I'll try to explain the problem through an example:
I take 2 random articles and tag them with "ANIMAL".
In this 2 articles create 1 note each with the word "BUTTERFLY".
Now, if I search into my library the notes where butterfly appears. I use the searchbar>everywhere>"butterfly".
This 2 articles and the notes attached will clearly appears.
>So in this case it works perfectly!
Now, if I first make filter by selecting the tag ANIMAL.
The 2 articles will appear and be visible.
Then, if I use searchbar>everywhere>"butterfly" : there is no answer!
>So, here is my problem
--> I think there is a problem with the searchbar option "everywhere" when (and only when) a tag is activated (because it doesn't search into the text presents into the notes)
The search then, as described above, only includes items in the current filter, i.e. not the note. I don't think you can do what you want without either also tagging the notes or using advanced search.
I think that if Zotero could also includes the attachments/notes after a tag the searchbar will become much more powerful.
Indeed, I use notes as a space for analysis of the articles I've read.
So each article have multiples personal notes. Applying this procedure to thousand of articles, the need to filter first and then be able to search information into thoses notes became crucial.
The only solution I've found so far is :
>creating a new group library
>copy/paste all the article tagged with the same tag into that library
>use the searchbar to search into those specific family of article and their attachments/notes
But this manipulation is probably not the best way...
This little quirk isn't the only one I've found on my use of Zotero.
I would like to help the community by giving some feedbacks and proposal for future improvement. Do you know how what is the procedure and to whom should I share my experience?
The third option in the searchbar : "everywhere" really confused me.
Indeed, as you said, the advanced research give some results with the 2 fields : tag + note. I've been testing multiples option however I'm still not fully convinced because the results are showing the right selection of articles but all the notes are still in grey (I understand now why).
In my case this only make the half of the job because it doesn't show me in which specific note the word asked appears. This job was working in the normal searchbar (make a color difference black/grey between the notes).
Also the window of the advanced research doesn't allow me to visualize the text contained into the notes to make the job myself. To found which specific note is concerned, I need to save my research and do it by hand in the main window of Zotero. Is it the only way?
