Cannot import pdf from Zotero Connector in Ubuntu 18.04

I have been using the Zotero Connector for months with no issues. It suddenly stopped working this week and I cannot figure out why. The issues is when I click the "Save to Zotero" button, it adds the bib entry in Zotero, but none of the attached files. I have tried with both Chromium and Firefox. Zotero is up-to-date.

    Can you provide a Debug ID from Zotero for the save attempt? (Attachment saving happens in Zotero, not in the Connector.)

    When I hit "Submit Output" in Zotero it says "Invalid response from server."

    OK, so you have a general problem connecting to the internet from Zotero. You should be receiving a warning about that at startup (unless you're on an outdated version).

    I was having a conflict with another program. I resolved the connection problem, but it's still not able to download PDFs from the connector.

    You appear to have your entire Zotero data directory in Google Drive. The data directory should never be stored in a cloud storage folder — you'll corrupt your database — and it looks like it's causing weird problems here.

    Okay, I deleted my database, reinstalled zotero, and left the default data directory (in ~/home/Zotero/). I'm still failing to import.

    That certainly wasn't necessary — you just had to move your data directory to the default location and point Zotero there.

    But you're still getting the same error, so something on your system still appears to be preventing the download from working. Could be security software or something about the network. Does this happen with any PDF — e.g., this one?

    I backed up my data directory, I was just still getting the error after moving my data directory and so wanted to make sure I could get it to work on a minimal case.

    I'm able to download that pdf to my ~/Downloads folder, but still cannot import it to Zotero. Not sure what would have changed in my network settings in the last week.

    I'm afraid you'll need to debug this on your own — this obviously works in general, so this would've had to be something on your system that changed (and your network connections from Zotero weren't working at all at the beginning of this thread, so clearly there are things on your system that can conflict).
