Metadata from PDFs already attached?

If I have manually added some limited information (Title, Author) for a new item, such as an article, and have already located and attached a full-text PDF to that item, can Zotero retrieve and fill in the additional metadata (e.g. Abstract) from the PDF? Or did I waste my time with this approach?

    We're working on the ability to update metadata for a future version, but the better way to do this is to simply save the item a normal way — either in your browser or via Add Item by Identifier — and then drag the PDF on top of the saved item.
