Why PDF as TOP-Level?

i don't know why pdf will be create as TOP-Level object when i create it as a new
document (by viewing it in a browser).

I can't give the top-leveled PDF any meta information.

The way zotero handle PDF in the stable version make more sence.
  • PDFs may be either parent or child objects in both the current 1.0 stable and 2.0 beta versions.

If you are capturing a PDF from a website, it may make sense to find the HTML version of the article & to capture that, with the "Automatically attach associated PDFs and other files when saving items" checked.

If you already have many top-level PDFs, you can right-click on them & try to "retrieve metadata for PDF" in the 2.0 beta. If found, this will create a new zotero reference item that will serve as a parent to the PDF.
  • Also worth noting: that "Create New Item from Page" when viewing a PDF creates a standalone attachment in 2.0 is a temporary workaround to allow for the use of the "Retrieve PDF Metadata" function. Eventually, when the metadata retrieval is improved enough to be run automatically when adding PDFs, the behavior for PDFs will probably be changed to be consistent with other types of documents, creating a top-level item with a child attachment.
  • i just tried "retrieve metadata..."

    very very cool.

Now it makes sence. Thank you for the hint
