Problem with book chapters and DOIs.

Hello,

There seems to be an issue when using the magic wand to lookup a book chapter's DOI, at least from Springer. For example, when trying to lookup DOI 10.1007/11547662_24 (which is a book chapter), the magic wand returns the corresponding book (DOI 10.1007/11547662).

Is it a problem due to Zotero, or to the proxy it uses? Is it fixable on my side?

Cheers,
François
  • Hi all,

A quick up to say that this problem still exists in beta 5.
Is it due to the way Springer generates its book chapter DOIs?

    Regards,
    Francois
  • I would also like to see this problem fixed. Springer has many of the computing conferences published as books, and retrieving individual papers from these is impossible with Zotero.
By way of example, Zotero considers these DOIs equivalent:
    10.1007/3-540-47979-1 (book)
    10.1007/3-540-47979-1_7 (article in book)
  • This is due to a deficiency in the CrossRef translator. These DOIs are correct; the output from the CrossRef query service is indeed for the book sections, as can be seen here for 10.1007/11547662_24 and 10.1007/3-540-47979-1_7.

These books are listed as type "other"; the CrossRef translator only creates Book Section items for books of type "edited_book".

The issue arises, I think, because different publishers model edited collections differently in the metadata they send to CrossRef.
