Sensing icon thingy?

Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct place ~

The icon that is supposed to come up on web pages to click to cite is not appearing for me. I went to several of the sites listed on the 'compatible sites list' to see if it would appear and it did not.

It DID appear when I tested it out on a NY Times article/site, but that was it.

I'm using Mac OS X version 10.5.7, Firefox version 3.0.10 and Zotero version 1.0.10, the only add-ons I have (besides Zotero) are NewTabURL 1.6.0 and Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X 1.0.4

I did go through all of the steps to trouble-shoot translators and nothing came up as a problem, that's why I didn't post this message there - it doesn't seem to be an issue with that??

I followed all of those trouble-shooting steps already though.

I appreciate any help, thank you!!

Because it does appear on some sites, it would probably be useful if you gave examples of URLs where it does not appear.

Oh sorry, duh, I suppose that would help.

Actually, the only site it HAS appeared is the NY Times site.

Other sites I tried on the Compatible List were:

American Chemical Society (ACS) Publications
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Ancestory.com
Answers.com

And then a couple of sites that I've been using that aren't on the list, were it also is not appearing are:

Please give full URIs, rather than site names for those that are on the compatible list. For example, do these work for you:

Zotero uses COinS when they are used on some Wikipedia articles, that get reprinted to answers.com. This allows you to scrape the reference list from properly formatted articles. The latter link you gave has no such references. You can use the "create new item from current page" for such web-only items.

I actually gave a bad example--it just includes a DOI. The ACS translator only works with journal articles, so try http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/nl051602p The other links you gave were, like mine, non-peer reviewed magazine/news stories. Perhaps the ACS translator can be modified to work with such content, but things are working as expected for you.

The ancestry translator only works with their US federal census data right now.
