Displaying First and Last Name in Selected References

I'm using 2.0b4 on a Mac with Word 2008. Usually Zotero works wonderfully but currently it is selecting citations with a particular author's name and displaying both the first and last names in the document (both for single authored and coauthored pieces). All other citations and the bibliography are working fine. I've tried deleting and reinserting the references to no effect.

See screen shot for reference. The larger font citations are the author whose citation is listing the first and last names. The font size is a function of Zotero. The remainder of the references are Zotero references that work fine and maintain the font I have selected for the document.

More details would be helpful. What do the entries in the Zotero database look like (e.g. garbage in (such as mis-split names) can lead to garbage out)? What citation style do you use (different styles disambiguate differently)?
  • Nope, no mis-split names or other issues. Both names are in separate and correct fields (François in the first name field and Nielsen in the last name field). These citations were working last week but not this week. I did not alter the citations.

I use APSA for all my documents.

The field itself seems to have something funky going on with it given the different font from the other citations in the document.
  • I don't use Word 2008, but others have claimed that all inserted citations are 12-pt times new roman: https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/1493

What happens to the field when you refresh the bibliography? And how are new citations that cite authors other than François Nielsen rendered?

Note that one author uses the "François" & the other uses "Francois," so this very well may be some disambiguation rule.
  • how is this reference displayed in the chrome test panel?

This appears to be it. When I have references in APSA with different first names (w/ the OO.o plugin), they are DABed by including those first names When I modify one reference so the first name matches, they are not. You should just change one of your entries in Zotero so that the author names match.

No comment on whether the CSL file should be changed or if Zotero is rendering it properly--I'm not familiar with the APSA rules & haven't looked into this in detail.
  • Sure enough that fixed it. I had imported a citation with his name listed as differently. Once I sorted through the various citations and found the odd one out I copied over the character and everything works like a charm.

    Thanks noksagt.
