Very strange MS Word error - please help!

"Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

Integration.Session.editBibliography: called without loaded citations"

This is what I see when I click "add/edit bibliography." What is happening? I am brand new to this software and it's gone haywire on me.

Also, when I insert a new citation, it takes away the previous entry in my reference list. Am I only allowed to have one source at a time?
  • Can you provide a Report ID from Zotero?

What exact Word version is this?

Does this problem happen in a new document, or just a specific existing one?
  • Thanks for your comment.
    I don't have a report ID.
It's just the most current version of word for Mac. Everything is up to date.
The problem only happens in this one document, so I can start over (because the document is new) but I don't want this to happen again when I'm half-way through my dissertation...
  • dstillman gave you a link with instructions for how to send in a Report ID. Please follow it and send one in after you get this error.
    https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems#provide_a_report_id

We will probably be able to help, but we need to know if this is an issue with just the one document or also with a new empty document. That will help to figure out what the issue is.
  • Hi,
It doesn't happen in a new document. However, it still happens that when I add a new citation/bibliography, it deletes my old ones.

  • If this is a small document and it wouldn't be too much effort could you remove the text contents of it except for a few sentences around citations, check whether you still get this error and if you do, send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
  • Hi,
Thanks for your comment, though I'm not sure I follow. The document is empty - I was trying to populate a list of all my references in one document (instead of in my dissertation document.) But every time I add a new citation or bibliography, the old one disappears.
  • We'd still want the smallest possible section of the document for which you can reproduce this.
  • Again, I don't understand what you're asking for. I am happy to send the document, which is just one citation and one reference since it won't let me add another - no text written around it. Would that help? Thanks.
  • That would be helpful. You can mail it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.
  • I'm happy though very confused to report that I deleted the text to start over and it's not giving me the same error. Any idea why or should I not look a gift horse in the mouth? Hopefully it won't return when I already have 50+ sources listed...
  • Wait not it is giving me a different error when I attempt to add a new citation. Let me get the report ID.
  • What is the precise wording of your new error?
  • I'm sorry, I didn't screenshot it this time because I thought you only needed the report ID.
  • Can you reproduce it?
  • JavaScript Error: "The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1728.) @[setTextRaw:field.m:597]"
Does this happen every time you try to insert into this document? Only with a specific item or any one? Can you reproduce it in a new document?
