I just set up sync and nothing is happening...

Hi all,
I just set up sync on my laptop and desktop. Until now I've only been using my laptop. I click the green refresh button on my desktop and nothing happens. What's going on?
  • Have you synced from the laptop? Do you see your items in the web library on zotero.org?

    See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/changes_not_syncing
  • Thanks for your reply. I read that FAQ page first and it doesn't seem to be any of those as far as I can tell. I've pressed the sync button on both computers but nothing has changed. I'm not sure what you mean by "do you see your items in the web library"...I'm new to this software and find it insanely frustrating that they don't have a help team. I'd be happy to pay for the software if there were someone to help me make it work!

This is the help team. The developers read every thread here, as do many volunteers. You will usually get a response within a few hours from people who are experts on Zotero. (For example, dstillman is the lead developer helping you in your other thread.)

If you go to https://zotero.org/avassilev/items/ do you see your items? That will help me to see where your problem is coming from.
  • (See How Zotero Support Works — as bwiernik says, there is most certainly a help team.)
  • That's great to hear because the software fills all of my needs.

Yes, I see my items when I click on that site.

OK, so see the Changes Not Syncing page linked above, which ends with a request for more information if you're still having trouble. But you really need to be sure you've tried everything on the page first (since, if you had, you would've already provided the additional information that's requested there, and there's very little else that can be stopping syncing from working).
  • And the issue would then appear to be on your desktop computer, so you should start your checking there.
  • Okay, I believe this is the information you're looking for. This is the bug ID from my desktop, since you say that's where the problem is:

    1836196505

[JavaScript Error: "IndexedDB Maintenance finished with error: NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE: ActorsParent.cpp:18877"]

[JavaScript Error: "The connection to wss://stream.zotero.org/ has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/streamer.js" line: 155}]

[JavaScript Error: "WebSocket connection closed: 1006 "]

version => 5.0.59, platform => MacIntel, oscpu => Intel Mac OS X 10.14, locale => en-US, appName => Zotero, appVersion => 5.0.59, extensions => Zotero LibreOffice Integration (5.0.14.SA.5.0.59, extension), Zotero Word for Mac Integration (5.0.17.SA.5.0.59, extension), Shockwave Flash (32.0.0.101, plugin)

    Does that help?
  • The page asks for a Debug ID, not a Report ID.
  • Sorry, I find this all a bit overwhelming and confusing. :/
I think this is what you're looking for:

    D958948143

    Thanks.
  • That looks as if you've already synced the handful of items in your online library.

There are 7 items in your online library. If you click on My Library in the left-hand pane in your local Zotero, how many items do you see?
  • Hi! I found them! They were hiding in a folder (which I had embarrassingly forgotten about.) You guys have been great, thank you!
