Word plugin "can't communicate" with Zotero
Hi - I recently installed the newest version of MS Word for Mac (v 16.16.4) and the Zotero plug-in didn't seem to be added to the new version. I used the instructions in copy over the .dotm file into Word startup folder, but now I get an error message saying Word can't communicate with Zotero. There seems to be an incompatibility issue between the plugin I was using and this version of Word. I can't figure out if there's a way to update the plugin and my Zotero is up to date. Has anyone seen this before and know what's causing the error?
Thanks! Sara

dstillmanIf you go to Tools → Add-ons → Extensions in Zotero, does the Word plugin show up, and is it enabled?

sf791Yes and yes!

dstillmanIf you restart Zotero, close Word, reinstall the plugin into Word from the Cite pane of the Zotero preferences, reopen Word, and click Add/Edit Citation with Zotero open, you get an error saying that it can't communicate with Zotero?

dstillmanIf you're running macOS 10.14, you should also upgrade to 10.14.1.

sf791OK that seems to have worked, although I still get a weird message when I open Word saying "Word was unable to load an add-in. Your add-in isn't compatible with this version of Word"... although I suppose that's not true because I was able to cite something. So thanks for your help!

dstillmanYou should check to see if you have any other add-ons installed in Word — I'd guess that that isn't about the Zotero plugin.
