Is there a version of the MLA 8th edition style that includes footnotes rather than the (authors, date) format? I didn't find anything in the repository.

adamsmithMLA Handbooks haven't included a description of a footnote style since the 5th edition, so no -- we wouldn't know how such a style would look like.
