adding quotations to a Zotero citation

Hello

I am using Chicago style, 17th edition, full note with ibid.

I have noticed recently that when I try to add double quotations to a citation, it automatically changes to a single quotation. I want to say: As Miller mentions, "....." but what is generated is: As Miller mentions, '.....'. I have repeated tried to confirm I am using double quotes but it persists in generating single ones. I have noticed that at times, I can open "Show editor" and add double quotes there - it works. But often times, although I can write in the Prefix box, I cannot see anything in the show editor box. It remains empty or blank.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
  • How about in the references (eg. for journal articles)? Do those have single or double quotes?
  • Same here, though nothing to do with quotes, in the old style quotation editor nothing shows, so nothing can be edited. Is this a bug?
  • There's no need to use the Show Editor box. You can just edit in Word directly, although you should avoid doing so as much as possible as (just like the show editor window) it will prevent citation updates in the future.
This likely is a bug in the Classic Citation dialog (cc @adomasven ) but since this isn't a part of it that you really need, not sure how high the priority of fixing it will be.
  • (Shouldn't we just take out that editor?)
  • Thank you for your comments. Regretfully, I am still not sure of what I should do to add the "double quotation" marks. Likewise, persistently, the "Show editor" box remains empty/blank when I try to open it and add the quotations there.

Are you suggesting I just edit the citation directly?
  • You shouldn't edit the quotations anywhere, ideally.

The key part on this for you is my first question in this thread:
How about in the references (eg. for journal articles)? Do those have single or double quotes?
