Selectively sync a subcollection ONLY

I'm a member of a group library which is massive in size, but the group has 3 subcollections within it. To save time syncing and space on my laptop I would like to sync only one of the subcollections of the group library. Is this possible?

I can only see under preferences>data syncing>chose libraries... that you can select the entire group (collection).

    No, not possible. However, you can set file sync to "as needed". By far the most space and most time is taken up by downloading attached files. As needed will do so only when you try to open a file.

    Hello, I have wondered about this setting: does "As needed" mean an attached pdf will sync up to Zotero Storage only *as needed* (thus helping you optimize your 300 MB storage)? Or does it only work the other way, that "As needed" you can sync pdfs down from group libraries to your local laptop?

    The as needed setting uploads everything, downloads only as needed. I don't see how Zotero would know which files you "need" to upload.

    OK, thanks, that's helpful. I wondered if it was possible to selectively upload to Zotero Storage, for example to select only one collection for file syncing. Your clarification about 'as needed' is helpful too.
