Zotero Plugin Word 2016

I installed both Word 2016 and the latest version of Zotero standalone on my new desktop and the plug-in never showed up, no big deal, I installed it manually, then everything seemed to be working just fine until 1) word's auto save was disabled 2) the plugin keeps disappearing every time I restart word.
Can anyone help??
  • Is this Mac or Windows?

When you say you installed it manually, do you mean that you placed it in the Startup folder and it appeared when you next started Word, or are you actually double-clicking the .dotm file? (You don't want to do the latter, but if you mean the former, how are you restoring it if the plugin keeps disappearing?)
  • It's Windows 10.

I have now tried double-clicking and copying the .dotm file into Word's template folder, with the same result, the Zotero tab keeps disappearing.
Each time I want to restore it I have to go to Options > Add-ins > Word Add-ins and check the box in front of "Zotero.dotm" that for some reason won't stay checked...
  • If the template is in the startup folder and showing up in Add-ins but is unchecked when you restart Word, that's a Word problem. With Word closed, you can try moving your Normal.dotm file (which I believe should be in C:\Users\:username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates) out of the way so that a new one is created. If that doesn't help, someone else here might have an idea, but you may have better luck troubleshooting this in a Word support forum, since this isn't really a Zotero issue.
