On mine it appears as a file and downloads a link instead of appearing as a "Z" and downloading the bibliographic information

The “Z” doesn’t appear on any site - only a file type of icon

Thank you. That is what I see, so I may be mistaken in my expectations. Let me ask this: when I open my Zotero library the entry, after clicking on that icon, appears differently than the other books in my library - it appears as a link instead of the bibliographic material. Is that what it should look like?

I'm not sure what you mean by a link. You can take a screenshot, upload it somewhere (e.g., Dropbox), and provide a link here.

If you're not getting full metadata on a particular page, we'd need the full URL you're saving from.
