user alert message from ACS Publications

Hi,

I tried to access an article today from JCTC, ACS Publications. Then, I got a message on my browser saying that my IP address was blocked due to suspected systematic downloading of content from ACS website.

In general, I use Zotero plugin on chrome to download the content from ACS. Only in a few cases, I download manually the pdf version of the article. Do you know if there is a restriction from ACS in using Zotero? It seems that one needs to respond to ACS requesting for restoration.

Thanks.
  • That message just sounds like you are trying to import a very large number of items (hundreds?) into zotero. If you try that, it will look basically like you are a bot trying to automatically download references.

See here for some tips on large-scale imports like this from databases:

  • I, not really I just click on the save plugin button in Chrome two times per day. Sometimes I have problems in saving files from ACS journals, they show "error in communication" and then I try and press again. Maybe here is the issue, when I click quickly, and it is interpreted as a bot request?
  • That’s unlikely to be the issue. Are you trying to save from your home network or at your university?
  • I am sitting in front of a PC at my university. Somehow the IP blocking been removed. I can now access the articles from ACS.

Is it common that Zotero has communication issues with ACS? In general, it works pretty well with all journals but in the case of ACS I get errors in trying to save articles.

    Thanks for your help.
