Keep running in the background

Is it possible to keep Zotero running as a service in the background, without the desktop app running?

    No (though you can of course hide the app).

    I have the (unfortunate) habit of killing the app with the 'X', when what I really intended was simply to reduce/hide it. So, it would be helpful if the service was running in the background even without the desktop app. Cheers.

    (For what it's worth, on macOS it's possible to close the Zotero window without closing the app and still save to Zotero from the browser. People have requested a similar thing on Windows with the system tray, and it could happen in the future, but not likely anytime soon.)
