How can I ensure my local sqlite file and online Library file are synched to the latest records?

Hello, Going through the online forum and the formal documentation so far isn't getting me entirely out of my little 'rut of confusion'.

My confusion began when I updated from v4 to v5 (some months ago). I gave up trying to figure it out then. Now I **really** need to get things fixed.

My Library was already reproduced online at https://www.zotero.org/[myname]/items/ however the online collection does not seem to be as up-to-date as my local zotero.sqlite backup file from v.4 last time I used it. Now locally (running Ubuntu 16.04 running Firefox & Chromium, and LibreOffice) I have just installed Zotero v5.0.54.

How can I ensure all the latest entries from my local sqlite file get reproduced in the online collection?

A somewhat different issue arises due to some error I must have introduced for the path to my collection. From LibreOffice when I click the Add/Edit Citation, nothing at all happens.

Thanks ahead for your assistance.
  • Generally all you need to do for this is sync (https://www.zotero.org/support/sync ). What makes you think the online version of your library is not up to date?
  • RE: What makes you think the online version of your library is not up to date?

Because of the dates of the most recent records.
  • A dumb little follow-up -- via the Synch tab I do not see a button to initiate the sync function manually. The link you sent has a little green arrow icon which I do not find.

Slightly less obtuse: how long should a 45Mb sqlite file take to complete (yes, I know it depends on my ISP service, but should I expect seconds (i.e. only newly indexed data which is what I'd expect) or minutes (i.e for a comparison function).
  • Sync with Zotero 5 is incremental. An initial sync of the full database could easily take 5 minutes. A regular sync typically is under 20 secs.

The manual sync button is at the top right of Zotero, not in the preferences.
  • Ah, okay, found it. (I recommend to also put it on the Sync page. ;-) Thank you.

It's running for a while (a few minutes so far), so that suggest to me it is running through a lot of updates as I anticipated.

The one other item in my intitial post was that the Zotero icons from my LibreOffice are not responding to being clicked. The mouse-over is working correctly (highlight and text description) but upon a click nothing happens.
  • I solved the non-working Zotero buttons be uninstalling and reinstalling Java.

    Regards,

    Joseph
