Lost entire library when upgrading

Good morning,

I just installed Zotero on a new machine at work, and got an error message saying that I needed to "upgrade the data directory using Zotero 4.0 for Firefox or select a different directory," even though I haven't used Firefox in years.

When I found a way to proceed, my Library was empty, both locally and online.

I don't suppose there's any way to restore it without access to my old work machine, which I believe has been wiped?

Thanks!

Jim
  • It sounds like there was an ancient version of a Zotero library (not necessarily yours) on that computer (i.e. preceding Zotero 4) and that triggered the error message you saw. I'm not quite sure why you would expect your library to be available on a new computer unless I'm missing something?

If the library wasn't synced (i.e. not online) and you don't have a local copy of the library, there's no way for Zotero to have it.

    Thanks, that's what I thought.
