Scraping metadata from map web pages

How can I save the underlying metadata in a record that will be created as Item Type "Map" when I reach one of the many web pages that host online images (LC, Rumsey, JCB, NYPL, etc.)? Right now, all I can seem to do is generate an item type "Web page" and it doesn't gather the displayed object metadata. Thanks!
  • Can you post some specific URLs?
  • Thanks. Some examples: https://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/0qg9aa and https://collections.leventhalmap.org/search/commonwealth:z603vt99q. There's lots of metadata, but I can't seem to figure out how to get Zotero to access it. (Same difficulties at NYPL sites: there is a "view this item in the catalog link" but Zotero returns an error when I try to scrape that page; the same strategy works at Library of Congress pages, however)
  • These two would theoretically be scrapable, but the metadata doesn't seem to be available in any structured format for access/download, so this is both fragile and hard. Would you also have a link to NYPL? Zotero does import from their new catalog, so if the maps are in there, that should work.
  • I think everything in Rumsey is at Stanford Library now--but there are no links between the metadata on Rumsey Historical Map Collection and the Stanford Library. I think I'll just import the reference and change it from web page to map for my use (a Heurist database). For NYPL there is a link to the catalog item, but here's what I get when I try to scrape that record it w the Zotero browser tool: An error occurred while saving this item. See Troubleshooting Translator Issues for more information.
  • adamsmith is one of the main developers of Zotero translators. He might be able to get a translator working. Can you give him a link to the NYPL site?
