Zutilo? Are there any instructions on how to use this thing?

I recently bought a new computer, and my use name is different on the old machine. This means that all the links I have saved in Zotero (to files on my hard drive) no longer work. I'm writing a dissertation and I have thousands of articles linked so this is a big deal.
I'm told that zutilo can solve my problems. I downloaded it and installed it on the standalone program, but I have no idea how to work the thing. Are there any how to's? I can't find anything online - which is really odd.
  • Do you still have the old computer with all data? An easier way to fix this is to just set a relative directory for file links in Zotero itself.

Zutilo documentation is here: https://github.com/willsALMANJ/Zutilo and for particular functionality in the linked "command reference" document. If you have specific questions, just ask here -- (the more specific the question, the higher the likelihood we'll have a helpful answer).
  • Oh I'll look into that. Thanks. I didn't know I could create a relative directory (and I'm not really sure what that means but I can look it up).
Thanks a lot, that really helps.
  • It's in the Zotero preferences under "Advanced --> Files and Folders"

You'll want to select a folder on each computer from which the filepath is the same.

    E.g. if you have

    /users/mark/myfiles/Zotero/... on computer 1 and
/users/markofucity/myfiles/Zotero/... on computer 2, select "myfiles" (or "Zotero") as the base directory on _both_ computers.
  • I just wanted to thank you for your help. I took your advice and it solved all my issues.

    Thanks again.
