Safari Zotero header icon long-press options no longer work after OS update

Recently I updated Mac OS to 10.13.4. I'm guessing this comes with an update of Safari (now version 11.1).

There's a Zotero feature where a long press on the Zotero icon in the header will present a drop-down menu with number of options (e.g. "Save to Zotero (Webpage without snapshot)").

The options are still presented, but selecting and clicking on an option, nothing happens.
  • I've fixed this for the next version, which should be out within the next week. Thanks for reporting.
  • Same problem, still not working. "Zotero is currently unavailable ." Tried the troubleshooting, and it says Zotero is connected.
    Safari 11.1, Zotero 5.0.47.

@ToreW what you are describing is not the same problem that the poster above talked about. If you are unsure, it is always best to create a new thread. See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/connector_zotero_unavailable
  • Ok, the effect is the same though. Selecting the options in the menu have no effect. And I did try all of the troubleshooting advice with no luck.
  • To clarify, when trying to save, you get a prompt saying that Zotero is currently unavailable, even though you have Zotero running and can access the ping endpoint? Could you test with another browser and see if it works? Have you tried disabling any extensions and security software that you are running?
  • Yes to all. It works with Firefox, but not with Safari.
  • Could you produce a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector?

    1. Open the Zotero Connector preferences
    2. In the Advanced tab of the Zotero Connector preferences, check the box next to “Enable Logging.” Do not close this tab.
    3. In a new tab navigate to this page, wait for it to load, click on the button and wait until you get the prompt.
    4. Go back to the Advanced tab of the Zotero Connector preferences, uncheck "Enable Logging" and click Submit to Zotero Server.
    5. You will be provided with a Debug ID (e.g., “D12345678”). Please post the Debug ID in this thread.
  • I can not get it to produce a log. I can get the Zotero preference menu by right-clicking in safari, but nothing happens when i click the menu item. In Zotero the debug output produce nothing and the submit button is greyed out. Not sure what you mean by click on the button in point 3 in your message. I can reach the advanced menu in connector from the "Z" icon, but it just says "Report Errors
    No errors have been logged."

  • Actually, @ToreW, did you only try the Zotero Preferences menu item? Because it looks like that one is still broken in 5.0.37. The other menu options should now work.
  • Not sure what you mean now. I tried (1) the Zotero preference menu by right-clicking in safari, (2) the Zotero application debug output, and (3) the menu in connector from the "Z" icon in Safari. None of them works.
  • This thread is about being able to select options in the long-press menu in Safari. Clicking on those didn’t have any effect in the latest version before 5.0.37. In 5.0.37, most of the options are fixed, but clicking Zotero Preferences there still doesn’t work. If that’s not the problem you’re referring to, please start a new thread.
