ZOTERO stopped adding bibliogrpahy on a full PhD draft

Hello,

For unknown reasons, Zotero decided not to work on my full PhD draft. It works when
I run a bibliography query on separate chapters but not on the full document.

Any idea why? Any suggestions how to overcome this are welcome. ;)

Thank you!
J.
  • Can you provide more details? What exactly happens when you try to insert a bibliography into the combined draft? If it is just taking a long time, this might be expected if your thesis is very long. Let it run for some time to see if it finishes on its own.
  • Which word processor exactly? And have you tried letting it run for a long time (as in overnight)?
  • Hi bwiernik and adamsmith,

    Thanks for the quick answers!
I'm running word for Mac 15.

For a couple of hours it either did not work or I got an error message (sorry I did not noted it).

Now, after few hours trying unsuccesfully, Zotero let me have a bibliography of the whole document. I think the problem comes from the fact that I edited the references in the text. The template I use is Leeds Harvard. It's supposed to be using the Harvard quotation style but strangely it does not insert a coma between the data the page number, e.g. (Lasch, 2000 p. 131).

I'm not sure exactly why. But I had to insert in all the references a coma to fit with the Harvard reference style. Zotero might not like that.

Any idea why the Leeds template does not correspond to the original Harvard Style?
The official recommendation at the University are in line with the original Harvard Style.

    Thanks,
    J.
  • There's no such thing as "an original Harvard Style" (that's why there dozens of them available for Zotero).

If you find a problem with a citation style, you'll want to ask for a fix (or use a different citation style) rather than manually editing citations, which causes all sorts of problems.

FWIW, the Leeds Harvard style was contributed by their librarians, though a quick look suggests that the missing comma is a mistake.
  • Thank you for the answer.

True, I'll ask for a quick fix. I've asked around and yes, it looks like a mistake. This could help me and other people using the template in the future.
