quote wikipedia in Harvard style

edited April 26, 2018
Hi there!

I use the (Author Year: page) citation mode ("Gesellschaft für Bildung und Forschung in Europa - Harvard (German)") and it works fine for most things.

When I cite Wikipedia, though, the citation just comes out as "(O A 2018)" [OA means "Ohne Angabe", which translates to "not stated" - Wikipedia articles don't have a single author the way books do.]

I don't know how to edit citation styles, but is it possible to edit this one (or a copy for me) so it would tell the title in the citation instead of the Author's name, if there is no Author in the data?

This would help a lot.

Best regards,
Arved
  • What does the author guidelines say regarding citing publications without author. Currently the style is indeed set to say ohne Autor if there is no author or editor.
If the guidelines say something different we can of course adapt it.
  • Sound like the author guidelines are indeed the place to implement a function of telling the title instead of the Author if there is no Author.
Only I have no idea how to edit this, can you point me towards a manual?

Can you link me to the author guidelines please.
I'll make the edit if applicable.
  • I'm sorry, i don't even know where to find those.
  • If this is what you need, I'mnot an author of that style, I'd like to create something like a dependent style out of it.
  • We go by author guidelines how to program a style as we can refer back to them.
See the style for the links to the documentation here in lines 8+9: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/blob/master/harvard-gesellschaft-fur-bildung-und-forschung-in-europa.csl
Unfortunately the 2nd link doesn't work anymore.
If you can do some digging and point me to where we can find the up-to-date guidelines, I'll do the edits if necessary.
  • thanks, I'll try to find it.
  • thank you for your help, and offering of more help, but I decided to take the easier route and choose another citation style, which also works for me. This Way I can spare us both the trouble.

    @abuen
Can you please get back to me regarding my question?
You'll understand that there are more students at your uni than just you. So let's work together and help all these students with a CSL style.
  • Hi,
I tried finding it but couldn't. I'm not a student at GBFE, I only used their citation style because it came closest to what I was looking for in the first place. So i don't really know how to be of help here.
