How to make a Zotero menu item in KDE and update?

Looked at the instructions https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/63880/linux-installation-instructions-for-standalone and it has a zotero.desktop file but is this for unity?

I am using Ubuntu but KDE (not Kubuntu). I put it in my /opt/ folder. How do I get a launcher item? How do I update it since it's a tarball?

There's certainly no official support for KDE, you'd have to figure out yourself how to set a launcher icon. As for updating, either install via the unofficial PPA https://launchpad.net/~smathot/+archive/ubuntu/cogscinl
or unpack/install Zotero somewhere in your home directory and then update via the Tools menu.
