Same citation but listed as a, b...

Why is it that all of a sudden when I add a citation that´s already been used it gets listed as a new post in my reference list? E.g. (Smith, 2015) for the regular citation. Then, when I add a new one later in my text the citations becomes (Smith, 2015a) and (Smith, 2015b).
I haven´t changed anything, even tried to delete the post in the Zotero library and then add it again. But the problem remains.

Does this have anything to do with different computors and different windows editions (and Word)?
  • even tried to delete the post in the Zotero library and then add it again.
that alone would cause it to be treated as a different citation, I'm afraid, so I'd suspect some version of this happened before, too: you had a duplicate copy in Zotero and deleted the one you cited, then cited the other once. Check which of the two gets added when you generate a new citation, then replace all the other ones in the text.
  • This seem to happen to all new citations I add. But, it only happens on my older stationary computor. This is not a problem on my laptop.
  • any export/import of your database recently? That also duplicates items.
  • It´s duplicated on my laptop but not on the other computor. But I imported it from laptop to stationary.. How can I make it work proper again?
  • Basically on transferring a library see here: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/transferring_a_library

I'm not quite sure what happened exactly so far, so it's hard to give precise instructions but what I suspect is that you exported from your laptop and then those new items synced back. I'd try to delete the items based on date added from your library.
