[resolved] Moving Citavi project into Zotero not working - .xml "unsupported format"

edited March 24, 2018
Hello,

for two days now, I have been trying to implement a Citavi (5.7.) project into Zotero (5), following the following documentation: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/import-from-citavi

Unfortunately the import does not work, Zotero will always cite an "unsupported format". I have also tried to create a xml file using other export methods (e.G. exporting an open office .xml from Citavi, or opening a .ctv5 in wordpad and saving it as .xml there, and exporting the project with various .xml-based ctv-exportfilers directly into the cache). With some exportfilters I can at least import the various objects from the project, but no citations, commentaries, objects, etc.

Also the mentioned .zip file, Citavi creates on the backup, does not happen in the backup process in my Citavi, the file will be a ".ctv5bak" directly.

I would really appreciate some help, or ideas how to get the import done.

Thanks!
Marko

    Issue resolved:

After a lot of fiddling, I found out that the rename-process works out in an advanced data-manager such as "FreeCommander". I followed the above mentioned guide, with specifically doing the rename of the .ctv5 with the rename-window (ctrl-m) in "FreeCommander". Besides attachments, all the data of my project were successfully converted.
  • What operating system are you using?
  • Ah, I see. Citavi is for the Windows platform. The normal Windows file manager often hides file extensions, but there is no need to install special software. If you open a Command terminal in the directory, "dir" will show files with their extensions. You can rename a file with "ren".
  • You can also display extensions for all files in Windows Explorer by opening the Folder Options window and unchecking the “Hide extensions for known file types” option.
