Report ID:174279328 (RDF Import Failing)

After using this fine plugin with Vista/FX 3.0.1 for some time, I recently upgraded to Windows 7 RC 1, FX 3.0.1 again. After installing the plugin, I attempted to import my previous library with pdf's included via the Import/RDF feature. Progress bar appears, however if I click on the library or the imported directory in the Zotero panel, it informs me there has been a crash/error and to check the error dialog. Upon inspection of the storage folders, it seems it is actually copying/collating data, however it crashes at random points, I have not been able to get it to actually finish in over 10+ tries. Please help, I would really love to get all my data back, and have no wish of manually redoing all my tags (thats the whole point of getting Zotero :P)

Error Msg inside Error Reporting database:

[JavaScript Error: "uncaught exception: Zotero storage URL not provided"]

[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: mimeType is undefined" {file: "file:///C:/Users/Dimi/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/5k7z5r8e.default/zotero/translators/RDF.js" line: 0}]
  • Partial success, if I remove the RDF from the My Library folder and just leave it somewhere else, if I import, it imports all my tags/infos...just not the corresponding folders/pdf's obviously. This is confusing, it either appears that Zotero can't handle the memory footprint influx and crashes while in FX, or its getting stuck on an import of a file/pdf/link that it originally had no problem registering. What gives?
  • RDF export/import isn't suggested for transferring your library to another machine. Did you backup your zotero data directory prior to upgrading:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data
  • Unfortunately, I trusted the program when it said "Export/Import" was required via RDF :/ So no. Will know for next time I need to format, but this is rather saddening, as I now have to try piece this together manually.
  • We'll have a look at that error, since obviously export/import should work, but since it works without any files, you could try (after making a backup of the backup folder) moving out of the way half the 'storage' subfolders at a time and trying import to see if it works. If so, you'll know the problem is with the other half, so remove the working half and move the other half back in. Then try half of the non-working half. Keep repeating this with the non-working half and you should be able to find the problematic folder (assuming there's only one) within a handful of tries. Once you've isolated it, make another copy of the original backup folder, remove the problematic folder, delete your Zotero data directory, restart Firefox, and import from the new copy.
  • Thx for the idea, I have successfully managed to restore almost all my entries, only 2 "folders" were involved in the errors, seems they were already pretty flacky references I tried to extract from google scholar. Is there any way I can send them in to be checked out for future fixes?
  • Sure. We can probably fix without, but feel free to zip up those two folders and send them to support@zot....org, referencing this thread. Thanks.
  • This should be fixed in Zotero 2.0b3.
