how can I save my highlighting of PDFs within Zotero?

Hiya,
When I open a PDF in Zotero and highlight it, and then press SAVE, I'm asked to specify WHERE I want to save it - i.e. it forces me to make a duplicate. Of course, I have no idea how to find the specific coded folder within the Zotero data Directory in order to save it there, and replace the existing file. So effectively I cannot highlight PDFs within Zotero!

I thought perhaps the problem could similar to the one described in this thread:
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/262845/
I therefore moved my Zotero data directory from where it has automatically created it, and into my Dropbox.
But this hasn't solved the problem.

Would really appreciate any help with this.
Thank you.
Beth
  • It seems like a problem in your system or Adobe settings. When I safe highlighted (changed) PDF it is standardly offered the same directory as the source PDf file. You can also find the correct directory by the "show file" function (right click on PDF in Zotero)
  • This a setting you need to change with Adobe. By default, recent versions of Adobe try to save modified files to the Adobe cloud. You need to change the default settings to saving the file in-place.
  • Also, you absolutely SHOULD NOT store your Zotero data directly in Dropbox. This will almost certainly lead to corruption and potential data loss. You should move the data directory back to its default location.
  • Thanks LiborA and bwiernik, I'll investigate further.

  • Hi Beth,

I'm having the same issue as you have reported above. Did you manage to get it resolved? I can't figure out how to resolve it. If you've managed to overcome it I would be grateful for any advice - I'm struggling and it would be so useful to have it fixed.
