Unable to edit footnotes in MSWord 2017 (Mac)

Recently every time I've tried to edit a citation, I get the "You must place the cursor in a Zotero citation to edit it" error even though I have put the cursor in the citation. I also have some instances where the citation repeats itself two or three times within a footnote. I think there must be something buggy going on, but I've already deleted and reinstalled Zotero. Any advice would be appreciated!
  • Does it work well in a new document? What specific version of word (like 15.41)?
  • Where exactly are you placing the cursor when you try to edit the citation?
  • Word is 16.8

I just tried, and the same thing happens in a new document.

Also, I've just edited a publication date in Zotero and used the Zotero Refresh button in Word, and that had the result of adding a second citation after the first within the footnote, rather than adjusting what was already there.
  • @bwiernik I've tried in many different places within the footnote!
  • We've had lots of reports of things not working properly with the 16.x ("Insider") releases of Word for Mac. I'd recommend reverting to the stable release track, i.e. 15.41
  • @adamsmith Ah, ok, thank you-- I'm giving that a try now.
