Import Citavi quotations

  • [JavaScript Error: "numbering[collection.id] is undefined" {file: "Citavi 5 XML" line: 351}]
  • @zuphilip
    Here's the file: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/10fc363b6d79dae897e296a4327aa707

    I hope that's what you meant...

    @dstillman @adamsmith
    can you explain the error to me?

    Many many thanks again!!!
  • Thank you for the file. I see the problem and try to fix it. Stay tuned.
  • @sbirkholz update translators from the General tab of Zotero and try importing again -- this should work now.

    As for the error, if you're interested in the technical details, you can see what zuphilip did to fix it here: https://github.com/zotero/translators/commit/dfd53381ee4ed734657fc3b0074593e6fcfde915
    but you can also just disregard if you're not interested in the technical details.
  • @adamsmith @zuphilip

    Fabulous!!! It works. Thank you so much for your efforts!

    I did check out the 'technical details' link but as I am computer dyslexic I might as well look at a Chinese novel.

    Have a great day and thanks again!
  • Hi, I have originally posted a question here (https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/294870#Comment_294870) asking how to import all the info (including the pdfs) from Citavi (on Windows) to Zotero (on a Mac) and was redirected to this post here.

    I have done everything as described here (https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/import-from-citavi) and was able to create the .xml file by unzipping the .ctv5 backup file. When I do import the .xml to Zotero on my Mac, all works fine except that there are no pdfs linked to the titles in Zotero.

    Did I miss a step, something like moving the attachment folder from Citavi somewhere else so that zotero has access to the pdfs?
  • Do you see the file paths for your PDFs if you open the XML file in a text editor?
  • (I think it should somehow show up under location in the XML and no, this shouldn't require placing the file into a specific location).
  • I am not sure that this case is handled. I tried an example with

    </Location>

    which was ignored. @AndriChristen Can you copy a similar code block of this file? There are different options to add a file to Citavi (copy, move, rename, link) which also might slightly look different.

    Thanks for helping.
    Maybe I should add that I want to (have to) move my literature from a windows computer to a Mac. I am exporting the whole thing from Citavi on my PC to a local folder. Then I unzip the citavi backup file with 7-zip, rename it to an .xml file, copy it to a memory stick and copy the file from there to the Mac from where I imported it to Zotero.

    Sorry, the xml posting didn't work, it changed completeley when I posted it the first time.

    Here once again:

  • @zuphilip this seems possible but hard for me to test -- any way you could look at this?
  • Okay, I can look into this. @adamsmith What would the expected behavior be then? a) Link from Zotero to these PDFs, or b) copy the PDFs into Zotero as snapshots?
  • I'd expect b) -- do you agree?
  • Yes, agree. PR is coming...
  • Okay, the Citavi translator was updated now. @AndriChristen: Make sure that you have the newest translator version and then follow the updated documentation https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/import-from-citavi#citavi_xml_format , i.e. copy all files to the same directory where the xml file lies and then start the importing.
  • What a great start into this new year!
    Dear zuphilip and dear all, thanks to your efforts and the released update to the import functionality for citavi data bases I was finally able to get all the data (including the attached files) from Citavi into Zotero. It works perfectly well.
    Thanks so much!
