ISBN not working

My ISBN search is not working. Everything else in Zotero is working fine.
It gave my this DeBug output D1216216732.
Can anyone help?
  • could you also give us a couple of ISBNs you've tested, please?
  • 978-87-412-5313-8
    - its a book in Danish, but it has never caused any trouble before. I have been able to do an ISBN search one it countless times and it came up every time up until today.
  • Could you confirm that this still works 978-0-470-88800-1 (and please don't interpret anything in the title; it's really just the first ISBN that I found) if so, any way you can try the original ISBN on a different network (e.g. from home instead of at university)? We've had some odd things going on with locally customized Worldcat versions.
  • I switched to my cellphone network and it worked with both ISBN's.
I was using my job's visitor network.
    Thank you so much!!
  • Also my ISBN search is not working well
It gave my this message : Zotero n'a pas trouvé d'enregistrement pour l'identifiant spécifié. Veuillez vérifier l'identifiant et réessayer.
    I tried two books :
    - 978-2-7381-1125-8 ( Boris Cyrulnik "un merveilleux malheur"
    - 978-2911616976 (Boris cyrulnik "ces enfants qui tiennent le coup")
    Can anyone help?
  • Zotero has very limited sources for ISBN search. It works relatively good for English books but the other languages are not sufficient. I usually use a national library, there I find the correct book by its ISBN and import the record to the Zotero.
  • Thanks a lot.
You mean : you import the record to zotero "manually" isn't it ?
  • Zotero finds the above URLs on a standard WorldCat setup (let's please check this before sending users on wild goose chases).

    @maythe same request as above:

  • What you mean "manually"? If you mean click on the Zotero connector icon then yes.
  • @ adamsmith : Thank you for your text: actually the ISBN you give me has been recognized by Zotero. Now .... would you be so kind to try these ISBNs of French books?
    - 978-2-200-61179-8
    - 978-2-7381-1125-8
I realize as LiborA says, that the Zotero ISBN search option is not sufficiently developed for the French language.
  • Both import:
Anaut, Marie. 2015. Psychologie de la résilience. Paris: A. Colin.
Cyrulnik, Boris. 2007. Un merveilleux malheur. Paris: O. Jacob.

Zotero uses WorldCat for ISBN metadata, which includes a large number (all?) French university libraries, so French books should work very well in general. LiborA works in Eastern Europe -- I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if catalogs there aren't as commonly sending their information to WorldCat (yet).
  • Gosh !
Is there anything I need to set differently in my zotero ??
  • Because finally this difficulty is recent in my zotero. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Zotero yesterday ... nothing has changed.
  • As I say above -- this is very likely related to the network you're connecting from -- are you at a university?
  • Adam, I live in Lebanon and the connection is "craft" ... that said, I have two laptops at home (with the same internet connection via wifi): I just tried on the other and to my surprise Zotero recognizes the ISBN ... so this is a problem on my laptop ... I will maybe try to remove Zotéro again but with all the files this time and reinstall ... what do you think?
  • I wouldn't re-install -- usually just a waste of time (though it won't delete your local data, so no worries about that).

Try resetting translators from the advanced tab of the Zotero preferences & make sure you're running the most recent Zotero version.
  • Here it is ..... finally !!! I reset the converters as you said and it worked! A very big thank you for your patience ... and I wish you a very happy new year 2018.
    Best regards
