SpringerLink: length limitation on the abstract field through connector?

Hello,

I just updated to Zotero5 and the connector in Firefox 52.0 ESR.
Grabbing data from link.springer.com works fine, except that abstracts are not completely imported. There seemes to be a limit at 200 characters.

Am I the only one with this behaviour? How can I change the limitation?

Thanks in advance, Susanne

  • That's certainly not a Zotero-imposed limitation -- it's very likely a problem in how we import from Springer (or on their site). Do you have a couple of links, please?

Update: For the above links, Yes, abstract is cut-off at 200 characters (with spaces).

If this helps: I am not seeing this behavior in my items grabbed from link.springer.com. I have full abstracts, and many are above 200 words/1000 characters.

Currently on Zotero 5.0.32 on Firefox 57.0.2, but I have items grabbed from earlier this year and last year when I would have been on previous versions of Zotero and Firefox.
  • The truncated abstracts are in the metadata on the page we grab. We'll see if we can either convince Springer to put them in as a whole or get them from somewhere else -- neither will be super fast, though, I'm afraid. Thanks for reporting!
  • Ok, then I'll hope, Springer will change this in the future.
    For now, thanks for helping!
