distuiguish between John (1999) and (John 1999)

Hi everyone,
I insert in Word document a text citation (John 1999) like this.

"this is an important topic (John 1999)."

It works fine. However, when I want to say: John (1999) argues that this is an important topic. Then there's a problem. The citation is still (John 1999) argues..... So to make it look right, I have to edit it. The thing is that when you switch to a new citation style, John (1999) becomes (John 1999) again, which is really annoying. So I have to go to each and every intext citation to correct them.

Is there any way in Zotero to distinguish these automatically?

Please help me.
Thanks.
  • Type "John" and then insert the citation with the "suppress author" box checked, which will insert only (1999) and persist through style changes.
  • Cool! It works. Thanks so much.
