How can I determine how much storage I need for my current Zotero library?

It took me a while to initially hit my 300MB limit with Zotero, but now it's been months without auto-sync. I am now interested in upgrading storage so that my library can be protected but I am not sure if I have already surpassed lower storage tiers.

Is there an easy way to see where I am at currently so I can see what plan I need or might grow into?
  • Not easily, no. You can look at the size of the "storage" folder in your data directory as an upper bound. Depending on the type of files you have this can be a pretty good estimate or about twice as large as the space you'll need on Zotero

Zotero also doesn't "lock" you into a particular tier -- if you start low, you can update any time and the pro-rated amount you have left gets credited to the new subscription (I'm hazy on the details -- the exact way this works just changed -- but in either case you don't lose anything when upgrading from an existing subscription).

You can now switch between tiers as necessary, and the expiration date just adjusts dynamically based on the remaining value of your subscription.
  • Thanks for both of your help. I looked at the size of the 'storage' folder for an estimate.
