Using same DB on another machine...possible?

Hi, not sure if this goes here but i am using the beta on two macs, one an imac and another a mbp. i thought i could just copy the Zotero directory contents to the mbp from the imac (where zotero works great) and use that db with all the links and whatnot on the other machine, but it does not seem to work even though on the mbp i am pointing to the copied directory under advanced settings. hope this makes some sense! thx.
  • What exactly isn't working? The Zotero data page might help.

Also note that, since you're using 1.5, you can use syncing instead of copying your data directory manually.
  • Dan, awesome! the sync works great, but if ur a developer one thing:
having to restart firefox is a bit strange from a user perspective!
take for example xmarks (formally foxmarks), its sync does not require restart. also the terminology is clearer - it's just syncing and no mention of reset or restore, which is a bit confusing. but don't get me wrong, zotero is awesome, exspecially now with the sync feature!!!
    jigs
  • The reset options are only for troubleshooting.

Normal syncing happens automatically (or manually if you prefer) and doesn't require restarting.
  • ah, but it seemed to me that to force an update from the server to a local machine you have to use no? I unchecked the auto sync box (which I do with xmarks too) and zotero did not seem to prompt me to sync, ever, as I would have expected when after making some changes. well, thx!
  • From the documentation page:
Both types of syncing occur simultaneously. If Zotero is set to sync automatically, changes will be synced as soon as they are made. Otherwise, the sync button must be clicked to initiate each sync. This is the circular green arrow on the right-hand side of the Zotero toolbar.
  • excellent, thx! almost too easy. cheers.
