Statistics on cited source type

Hi,

Recently in literature reviews I often see statistics on the type of cited sources, e.g. 25 journals, 4 books, 7 websites, etc. I found already a lot of statistics requests in the Zotero forum and the most common answer was that developer availability was scarce and therefore statistics were limited. Nevertheless, I don't give up hope and dare to ask:
Is there anything like this already built in to Zotero, or is there some kind of clever workaround to retrieve this kind of statistics for a certain document that contains Zotero citations?

In every case, thanks for the great work, my favorite citation manager!

Cheers,
Fabian
  • No, sorry. Document collections are planned and once you have that, it'd be very easy to either just count after sorting by item type or by exporting to CSV and analyzing in Excel (or something fancier)
  • You could use http://rintze.zelle.me/ref-extractor/ to extract the references and import them to a new collection in Zotero for counting. Note that these will Be new (duplicate) items that you probably want to delete after counting.
  • Hi,

Thanks to you both for the helpful and timely answers. Looking forward to the collections feature and using the ref extractor meanwhile. Not having to upload any data would be my preference, though.

Thanks again and have a nice weekend!
  • Note that you aren't uploading anything to a website with reference extractor—all of the processing takes place on your computer.

Just want to confirm that this is correct. The Word files you select at http://rintze.zelle.me/ref-extractor/ never leave your computer. Once the page has loaded you should even be able to use it without an internet connection.
  • Hi,

Great, then it's basically the perfect solution to my problem - thanks for pointing this out and have a great week!

    Cheers,
