Report ID: 1294606380

I just updated firefox and the zotero icon does not appear in the task bar. I tried to update translators too. Every time I go into add ons the zotero icon appears in light grey.

So now i have downloaded the Zotero stand alone and the connector. THe connector icon shows up in the toolbar when I go into add-on, zotero, options. But if I exit that window, the zotero icon disappears.
  • When I click on the small webpage icon on the toolbar, it asks me "add snapshot and save to zotero?". I tried to see if the icon changes to a book or a journal icon when I switch to a relevant window, but this does not happen.
  • @kalindikokal:

First, to make sure you understand the changes in 5.0:

    https://www.zotero.org/blog/a-unified-zotero-experience/
    https://www.zotero.org/blog/zotero-5-and-firefox-faq/

The save button works the same way as it did in Zotero for Firefox. It should change to a book, journal, etc., as you browse the web.

If that's not happening, see Troubleshooting Translator Issues.
  • I am also come across this problem with my zotero after upgrading firefox. @dstillman Yes. The button changed. But the Zotero tab or window did not display.
  • See the linked pages, which explain the changes here.
  • @dstillman OK. I got it. Thanks.
  • ok, i will just check and get back. the icon however does not change from webpage.
  • nope, doesnt work still. I reset translators as well. but the 'spanshot' icon does not go from the toolbar and does not change either. I dont see the usual Zotero 'Z' either on the toolbar. Is that normal for the new Zotero?
  • Again, see Troubleshooting Translator Issues, which ends with a request for more information.

Yes. That's explained in the linked posts.
  • This is now my debug id : The Debug ID is D1314665699.
And here is what it says in the console:

[JavaScript Error: "HTTP request has timed out after 15000ms"]

[JavaScript Error: "HTTP request has timed out after 15000ms"]

[JavaScript Error: "HTTP request has timed out after 15000ms"]

    connector => true, version => 5.0.26, platform => Win64, locale => en-US, userAgent => Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0, appName => Firefox Connector, zoteroAvailable => [object Object]
  • Please slow down and take the time to read the things we link to in full, or this is going to take much more of both of our time.

As it says, if you're only getting the webpage icon, we need a Debug ID for loading the page, and we need the other information listed.
  • I am sorry but I don't understand 'debug id for loading the page'.

Also, when I try to hover over the icon, all it says is 'save to zotero': webpage with snapshot. I am unable to get information about the type of translator, as the troubleshooting page suggests.

"Debug ID for loading the page" means that you would start the logging, immediately load the page (which should log information about whether Zotero found a translator, etc.), and then submit that output once the page finishes loading, and then post the Debug ID here. (No need to post the output.)

An example URL is also helpful in general. (We can see that in the debug output, but posting it here lets other people see it who can't access the reports.)
  • The Debug ID is D487004218.

the webpage I tried loading was https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/ which would have ordinarily showed me the newspaper icon.
  • @dstillman: the save to zotero icon is now changing in Jstor.org and some journal sites. But on amazon.in, it still does not show the book icon.

No it wouldn't — first, that's just the homepage (though that should show "Embedded Metadata", and it does for me, so there still may be a problem for you), and second, we only appear to have a translator for the Economic Times part of that site, so you wouldn't get a newspaper icon for the rest.
But on amazon.in, it still does not show the book icon.
We need a Debug ID for loading that, then. Make sure you're trying a product page, not the homepage.
  • ok, you are right. I have to wait for the entire book page to load before the icon changes.
Also, in the Times of India website it is showing embedded metadata for me as well.
So, i guess for now my problem is sorted.
    Thank you for the help!
