Emergency !!!!!!!!I losed everythings!!!! perte de toute la biblio!!!

Bonjour,

Please need help
I have an enormous pb, I losed everythings from the upgrade, someone could help me please. ??? I am writing my thesis, and the deadline is in 10 days!!
Please need to have all my last work coming back, how I can do ???
  • it's done, I was totaly afraid..
People have to resynchronise with the good file, and it will be totaly ok :) :)
  • Sorry, we need a more information. What did you upgrade? Zotero? From which version? What OS?
  • I had 4.0 and now 5.02.

I think it was just on the advance options, and to select the godd file and make a new synchonisation...
It 's still bad to have upgrading when you are in my position :/
  • Thank Libor for your reply.

    So 4.0 to 5.02, win 7,

And its the first time that something happened in 4 years... Imagine the stress
  • To be clear, Zotero 5.0 should automatically show your previous data from this computer when you install it — there shouldn't be any need to synchronize or to point it somewhere.

Are you saying that didn't happen?

If so, what's the current value of your Zotero data directory, and what was it set to when you first upgraded (if you've since changed it)?
  • But there are a lot of pb again, I have all the indexation, but the files are not with the indexation, so what have I to do?
  • See my message above.
  • Nothing appeared when I launched zotero just after the upgrade.

so I synchronize with the good file and good address.
and select the file zotero.sqlite.bak (229 Mo)
    in
    U:\Users\olivier\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\r9ae3afu.default\zotero

Then indexation came back but without documents

Do I have to make manual connexion with all indexation ?
  • and I didn't change nothing before the upgrading and nothing after
  • Synchronize as in sync with the server? That's not what you want to do.

What's your current data directory when you click Show Data Directory?

Do you have a U:\Users\olivier\Zotero directory?

What are the sizes and timestamps of the zotero.sqlite* files in the various directories you have, and are there 'storage' subdirectories within those with many other subdirectories?
  • which one is it exactly...? sorry I feel stupid.. Ihave 2 directories
and Ididn't wanted to synchronize with server, just with my file .bak

first one is bases directory for attachment files
    U:\Users\olivier\Downloads\sauvegarde publi

the principal data directory where the filezotero.sqlite.bak (229 Mo) is located
    U:\Users\olivier\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\r9ae3afu.default\zotero
and I didn't choose that, or I don"t remeber, I think it was automatically

I'm a bit confused as to why you're referring to the .bak file. What matters is the zotero.sqlite file and the 'storage' folder.

Can you answer the questions in my previous post?
  • there is nothing on the file strorage, and no zotero.sqlite

I have just have this file here
    U:\Users\olivier\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\r9ae3afu.default\zotero

    zotero.sqlite from 16/11/2017 (9Mo)
    zotero.sqlite.1.bak 12/11/2017 (229 Mo)
    zotero.sqlite.1.bak 13/11/2017 (229 Mo)
    zotero.sqlite-journal 06/11/2017 (302Ko)
    zotero.sqlite.1-mj880B5B981 12/11/2017 (1Ko)
    zotero.sqlite.1-mjF272C79A4 28/06/2017 (1Ko)
  • And you don't have a U:\Users\olivier\Zotero directory or a 'zotero' directory within your Firefox profile directory (if you were using Zotero for Firefox previously)?
  • No I don't have,
I am mainly make data copy on my computer, and then , use zotero standalone
  • jsut have that

C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero Standalone but no sotrage directory inside

    and
    U:\Users\olivier\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\r9ae3afu.default\zotero
  • It pretty much has to be somewhere else. Given the files you listed in U:\Users\olivier\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\r9ae3afu.default\zotero, that's not an upgraded 4.0 data directory, so this isn't the directory you were using previously.

Note that it wouldn't necessarily appear in a Windows search. Did you explicitly check the two locations I mentioned? Were you using Zotero for Firefox previously or Zotero Standalone? Do you have Firefox installed? If you don't see a 'zotero' directory in your Firefox profile directory, what files do you see?

Also, this is U:, which is sort of unusual. What's in C:\Users?
  • it's unviersity computer, they pushed a lot of safety and boring staff on it, U its just for data, no software. and yes I have firefox. and yes I check to standalone directory, and found nothing. I just found what I worte you...

I have the feeling it s start be complicated, I faloowed all your upgrade from the past, and never meet any pb, so I don't understand what happened....

If you have no idea, I willl restart from an old copy of my system, and will restart without any zotero upgrading, it will be more simple and quick.

    what do you think ?
  • Can you answer my question about the Firefox profile directory?
  • dstillman, I am so sorry, I didn't find any firefox file, I don't know where is it ?
  • I linked to Mozilla’s instructions for finding it.
  • Ok, I go it, I found the firefox profil, but nothing about zotero, it's not mentionned inside.
  • just some extentions, that I downloaded by the past. this is sad :/
  • what files are in there, though?
  • in the directory extension :
    zotero@chnm.gmu.edu.xpi
    zotero-integration@eazypaper.com.xpi
    zoteroscholarcitations@beloglazov.info.xpi
    zutilo@www.wesailatdawn.com.xpi

  • I found that now
    U:\Users\obleuse\Documents\Bibliographie
    and zotero.sqlite from 14/11/2017 103 Mo
  • its just crzay, I don't understand how is possible, to have so much mess in my computer :/
  • Ok great, I fixed it, so hard but its done :):)
Thank for your support adamsmith and dstillman

It's was a bug to find the godd zotero.sqlite, and now I change the data directory, and everythong came back to the noramility ..!!!!

Have a good day guys and thank you so much !!!!
  • OK, glad it's working. To avoid confusion in the future, I'd recommend making sure that you have only one Zotero data directory and that it's located in U:\Users\obleuse\Zotero. (This is separate from your profile directory, which should remain at U:\Users\olivier\AppData\Roaming\Zotero\Zotero\Profiles\r9ae3afu.default, but you shouldn't have a 'zotero' directory within there.)

Some other people have reported problems like this, so we'll try to figure out if there's a specific configuration that the Zotero 5 upgrade isn't handling properly.
