ProQuest New York Times Archive error

edited October 31, 2017
Hi,

I need to download the Full-Text PDF files from a search. Yesterday I came across Zotero which I am using right now. When at a certain page with part of the results, I use the Zotero plug-in (both Chrome and Firefox are used) to download the files.

This is going perfect for the first files (batch of 10 or 20). But when I move on to the next page with results and do the exact same it mostly gives the error:

An error occurred while saving this item. See Troubleshooting Translator Issues for more information.

However, after reading the forum and the website I could not find what the exact problem is here. The weird thing is that it succeeds one or two times and then crashes..

Would this be a error of me doing it wrongly or is this a general concern (regarding an updated ProQuest database for example)?
  • Are you referring to this archive http://www.nytimes.com/ref/membercenter/nytarchive.html ? If yes, then there is an restriction in this database, which allows you only to download at most 20 articles in fulltext per month.

Thanks for the comment. I was referring to the NYT historical archive through ProQuest. Your link brings me to the database of the NYT self.

However, there may be a download maximum as well here. But that’s not 20 a month as the code at least (sometimes even more) provides 20 results a day.

So far I could not figure out whether this is a real NYT restriction or a bug in Zotero.
  • ProQuest also throttles downloads. Have you tried manually clicking through to results after Zotero fails?
I've checked and I can download articles from the 2nd and 3rd page of the PQ Historical NYTs database without issues.
