There is no Z
It shows in my add-ons, but there is no Z.
I have installed this at work with no problem, but it won't work at home.
Also, I have read through everything written in these forums about these kinds of issues and tried everything possible. And surfed endlessly all to dead-ends.
I am thinking that there are a sufficient number of issues expressed that the developer ought to devote some honest work to producing a flawless "installable package".
Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful package and I have done some lovely things with it at work. But, the fact is, your developer is not giving sufficient attention to these constantly recurring installation issues.
And, yes, of course I can see me status bar. And, no, these are no other add ons.

This is an old discussion that has not been active in a long time. Instead of commenting here, you should start a new discussion. If you think the content of this discussion is still relevant, you can link to it from your new discussion.
I assume you've read the No Status Bar Icon page. Have you tried the "Corrupt extension files" steps (or any of the other troubleshooting steps from the Mozilla site)? Have you tried installing Zotero into a new Firefox profile?
Also, do you see Zotero listed under Tools?
I am willing to explore this, but I am thinking you are not hearing me. There are zillions of pieces of software being installing annually and flawlessly. But your response suggests that the constantly recurring issues with Zotero installation must be due to external factors.

Create a new profile, install Zotero into it, and see if you still have the problem. If not, it suggests that there's a problem in your original profile.
This wouldn't necessarily mean that you'd have to switch to the new profile and transfer your data over—it's just a troubleshooting step to isolate the problem. If you haven't tried the "Corrupt extension files" steps in your old profile yet, that'd certainly be the first thing to do. No, I'm telling you that your premise (that there are installation bugs in Zotero) is wrong. Yes. Because they're generally due to corrupt Firefox extension files or conflicting add-ons. We can't fix a problem in Zotero if the problem isn't in Zotero to begin with.
We also have no reason to believe these problems are common relative to the number of people for whom Zotero installs flawlessly. As in, a menu option under Tools, or in Tools->Add-ons? I was referring to the former. If you do see a Zotero menu option under Tools, what happens when you select it?
Then, when I close firefox and re-open, it goes back to the original profile.
And when I go through the New Profile routine again, the one I just created doesn't show.
I don't see any place in firefox to give me a choice of profiles, although Win Explorer says I now have several.
But you appear to be saying that Zotero installed fine in the other profiles. So, as I said above, there's a problem with your original Firefox profile that has nothing to do with Zotero. You haven't yet answered, but I assume by now you've tried the "Corrupt extension files" steps? If those don't work, you may want to just move your data to the new profile.
Z works fine for me at work, and I'm doing great things with it.
At home, I'm not inclined to spend more than a few evenings with it. So I am done.
