Backup with Mac

I wish to do a Backup, using my Mac.

Could I simply find the zotero.sqlite file in the Finder and copy that file to my backup location? Is that a safe route to go?

Thanx for your help.
  • you also need to copy the entire content of the storage folder (which is in the same folder as zotero.sqlite).

The recommendation would be to automate this, e.g. with TimeMachine, rather than relying on you to do it manually.

That means it would be in the /Users/<username>/Zotero folder, right? In other words, if I wanted to do a backup manually, I should be copying the entire Zotero folder (/Users/<username>) ?

I am 99% sure that TimeMachine does a backup but I thought I'd do it manually in a different location just for extra precautions. Do you think this is necessary?

    Thnx again.
  • If you see zotero.sqlite in the Time Machine backups for that directory and Time Machine keeps working, it's not necessary, no. But more backups are always better than fewer backups, so you can certainly make an extra copy periodically. (I'd put it somewhere other than on the same backup drive, though.)
  • and yes, that's the right idea -- saving the entire data folder, which by default is at /Users//Zotero is the easiest way to back-up.
