Snapshots don't always work

I snapshot a web page. When I try and view the Snapshot I get a file not found message. If I go to show file, the file is an .html or .css file called index_x (where x is a number) instead of a gif. Here is a web page that gives me this problem every time, as an example:

http://vbnet.mvps.org/index.html?code/hooks/index.html

Hope you can get this fixed, or suggest a work around, as not being able to rely on the snapshot being there when I need it is spoiling an otherwise very useful tool.

Thanks,
Mike
  • Zotero uses WebPageDump's code for making snapshots. I took a look at the page source for your link and I would hazzard to guess that the problem is emanating from the fact the almost all of the page and its navigation is generated via javascript. You can read up more about some previous issues with snapshots in this thread. When you come across additional problematic sites please post links in this thread.
  • Thanks for the reply. I'll check out the thread. Fortunately this doesn't seem to effect too many pages. I guess I'll just go back to my previous method for the few pages that don't work. What I was doing before zotero was printing web pages to XPS files using Microsoft's XPS document writer (installed with the free XPS Essentials pack). I can then open these in Firefox with the Pagemark XPS Viewer add-in. Is there any way to link these files into zotero?

Add them the same way you do any attachment: drag them into zotero or add icon->link to/store copy of file or click on an item, go to the attachment tab, and use the add drop down.
  • Thanks. That works great.
