Easier way to add individual items than address bar icon?

I've recently enabled Zotero support to a book database site called (see www.bestcommentaries.com/category/ephesians ) via COinS.

The problem I'm seeing is that the only option to add items is to use the icon in the address bar, but in my case this brings up 30+ books with similar titles and no author to differentiate them.

I would think it be quite a bit more intuitive to be able to right-click on an item (<span class="Z3988" />), bringing up a context menu which would allow me to "add this item" to Zotero.

If I missed some simpler way to add individual items from a page, please let me know.
  • For this particular issue, it seems that the right thing to do would be to allow for more fields to be displayed in the import dialog box (and I think this has been discussed before).

Note that some translators would not be able to easily anchor an in-page icon to a particular reference and that some might object to rewriting a page they will take a snapshot of.

The COinS on your site have content within the span. Note that some tools that process COinS replace the entire span with content; others assume that your span is empty & would not be able to intelligently place their links. Either way, your site will not render as you intend it to if people have tools that use COinS.
  • noksagt, thanks for your quick response. I'll definitely change the <span /> tags so they don't surround anything.

I definitely agree that the author should be in the import dialog for clarity. Unfortunately, it still seems like it will be difficult to increase user adoption if there's no way to interact with actual content on the page.

I don't know if I agree. At the very least, Zotero's behavior is consistent across all sites.
